Surgical Procedures

This can include many surgical procedures to all parts of the body including cosmetic surgery, mastectomy, abdominal surgery for removal of gall bladder, bowel surgery or hernia. It can also include cardiac (heart) vascular (arteries and veins) and neuro (nerves, spine and brain) surgery.

Many procedures are now undertaken by what is known as key hole surgery. This in itself can cause injury as the initial insertion of the camera is undertaken ‘blindly’ and can damage internal organs.

Common failings following surgery are infection and inadequate healing of the wound. This is not always as a result of negligence. What is more likely to have been caused by negligence is damage to internal organs, blood vessels or nerves, late performance of the surgery, poor surgical technique or inadequate investigation prior to commencing surgery.

It is vital that your surgeon gives you a thorough explanation of what will be done, the risks involved in going ahead or not going ahead with the proposed treatment, and information about alternatives to the treatment prior to the surgery commencing. If this is not done, this can be negligent.

If you have undergone a surgical procedure which you did not fully understand or have been left in a worse position following surgery then call us to discuss your situation.

Call 0800 043 4035 now to speak to a specialist medical negligence solicitor about claiming compensation following negligent surgical procedures.
